The largest and most theatrical of the great composer/ conductor's works, Mass is a simple name for a soaring work that fills the stage with choruses, a Broadway-sized cast, an orchestra and even a rock band. Originally commissioned for the opening of The Kennedy Center in 1971, this stunning new production combines the music of Bernstein, Grammywinning pop icon Paul Simon, and Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Godspell, Wicked) in what promises to be the musical event of the year.
Co-presented with Virginia Symphony Orchestra
By arrangement with Boosey & Hawkes, Inc., Sole Agent for Leonard Bernstein Music Publishing Company LLC, publisher and copyright owner.
This project is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts as part of the American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius
